PLANET announces 2010 awards programs

HERNDON, VA — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) provides its members with the opportunity to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Green Industry. Entries are now being accepted for the following programs:

The Environmental Improvement Awards Program is open to PLANET members and reflects PLANET's commitment to creating and preserving the beauty of our landscape. The program is designed to reward independent landscape, interior plantscape, and landscape, and lawn care professionals who execute superior projects. The early-bird deadline for entries is July 9, 2010 and all entries are due by August 13, 2010.

The prestigious Green Industry Contribution Award is presented to corporations, developers, or municipalities that exhibit a consistent commitment to contracted services for quality interior plantscaping, lawn care, or landscaping to create environmental awareness. Their contributions must have made a major impact on the environment locally, regionally, or nationally and have in some way changed the way people view the green industry. The deadline for nominations is August 13, 2010.

Leadership at the association level is critical to the green industry’s future. The Association Partner of the Year Award honors a state or regional association for its contributions to the green industry within its state or region and nationally as a PLANET member. The deadline for nominations is August 13, 2010.

Forward-thinking executives are recognized in the Association Executive Partner of the Year Award, which honors the executive of a state or regional association for his or her contributions to the green industry within his or her state or region and nationally as a PLANET member. The deadline for nominations is August 13, 2010.

The Lifetime Leadership Award is presented annually to a PLANET member who has demonstrated overall dedication to the green industry. Award criteria include leadership, service, commitment, and diligent promotion of professionalism to society at large. Recipients of this award have made contributions to both PLANET and the green industry. The deadline for nominations is August 13, 2010.

The PLANET Promise Award recognizes industry-leading participation and involvement in carrying out the PLANET promise to:

  • Deliver unparalleled value to PLANET members
  • Grow the green industry workforce
  • Expand PLANET’s position as partner of choice
  • Advance marketplace recognition
  • Influence through proactive advocacy

PLANET members who have dedicated themselves to delivering exemplary results on the PLANET Promise are eligible for this award. The deadline for entries is August 13, 2010.

PLANET’s Sustainable Company Award was created to recognize those businesses that strive to protect and conserve resources, reduce waste, and prevent pollution. In addition, they promote an ethic of environmental sustainability and improvement within their workplace, and serve as leaders of green business practices for others to follow. The deadline for entries is August 13, 2010.

The entry deadline has been extended to May 28, 2010, for PLANET's Safety Recognition Awards Program. Sponsored by CNA Business Insurance, this annual event recognizes companies for their commitment to safety and is open to PLANET members and non-members, as well as members of the STARS Safe Company program.

Applications can be downloaded from the Programs, and then Safety Programs section of PLANET’s Web site at LandcareNetwork.org and mailed to PLANET, Safety Recognition Awards, 950 Herndon Parkway, Suite 450, Herndon, Virginia, 20170, or faxed to (703) 736-9668. In addition to the entry form, participating companies must submit a copy of their OSHA Form 300A Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, a copy of their year-end vehicle insurance claims summary report, and a completed Safety Program Checklist, which is included with the entry form. There is no entry fee.

Safety Recognition Awards categories include:

  • No Vehicle Accidents
  • No Injuries or Illnesses
  • No Days Away From Work
  • Most Improved

An Overall Safety Achievement Award can be earned at the Gold, Silver, or Bronze levels.
