Hammons Field nabs Double A 'Field of Year' honors

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- Minor League Baseball has announced that Hammons Field, home field of the Springfiield Cardinals, has been named the 2008 Double-A Field of the Year.

Head Groundskeeper Brock Phipps praised his assistant and crew for helping Hammons Field earning 2008 accolades.

This marks the first year in club's history in which Hammons Field has taken home the award, one in which 30 Double-A teams were eligible for.

The award completes a banner year in 2008, as Hammons Field was also named Texas League Field of the Year and Head Groundskeeper Brock Phipps was named Texas League Turf Manager of the Year.

  "To know that we were voted Field of the Year in all of Double-A baseball is quite an honor and very humbling," said Phipps. "I'd especially like to commend our assistant groundskeeper, Aaron Lowrey, the entire field crew for their superior work and expertise, as well as the entire front office of the Springfield Cardinals, for their immeasurable support throughout the season."
