Vandals damage new artificial turf field in New Orleans
21 Dec, 2008 Athletic Turf NewsNEW ORLEANS — Vandels spray-painted graffiti on the new artificial turf football field at Destrehan High School here in mid December. The field was installed this past summer.
It is believed the vandals entered the field over metal barricades placed next to the construction site for a new baseball field. The field is part of a $2.6 million upgrade to the athletic facilities at Destrehan and nearby Hahnville High School.
The vandals also sprayed the exterior boys' field house, and entered and damaged the girls' field house at Destrehan High.
After conferring with a representative from FieldTurf, the manufacturer of the field, school workers used a paint remover and a cleaning agent to clean the field.
