European baseball field maintenance clinics set for October

9 Sep, 2010 Athletic Turf News

Western Europe is not generally considered a hotbed of baseball interest, but that could be changing.

Major League Baseball’s Field and Ballpark Consultant Murray Cook will be presenting two 2-day European Field Maintenance Clinics this October.

The first is set for Oct. 9-10 at Centro di Preparazione Olimpica in Tirrenia, Italy, the second Oct. 11-12 at Neptunus Family Stadium in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

In addition to hands-on instruction, classroom topics include:

— A discussion of ballpark dimensions and standards by Cook

— Baseball field lighting standards and maintenance by Rick Sneed of Musco Lighting

— Infield maintenance by Tom Burns, of TXI Diamond Pro

— Mound and home plate maintenance by Cook

— Protecting your field with proper covers, tarps and padding by Bob Curry of Covermaster.
