Cleary announces label changes for its 3336 fungicide

19 Apr, 2006 LM Week in Review

Turf managers who plan to use Cleary Chemical's 3336 turf fungicide should be aware of recent label changes mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency as a result of the agency's November 2004 reregistration for the fungicide's active ingredient, thiophanate methyl.

Dr. Robert Wick, of the UMass Turf Program, summarized the changes as follows:

1. Thiophanate-methyl can no longer be applied to turf by a homeowner unless it is a granular formulation. Professional applicators can still make applications of all formulations of thiophanate-methyl to residential sites.

2. Use of this product on sod is no longer permitted.

3. All 8 oz use rates have been eliminated for all diseases because this rate exceeds the new maximum rate active ingredient (ai) per application.

4. Fourteen days is now the minimum retreatment interval for turf. All seven-day retreatment intervals have been omitted.
