Lawn chemical truck crashes near middle school; students evacuated

DES MOINES, IA — WHO TV in Des Moines, IA, reported that a TruGreen-ChemLawn truck full of herbicide/fertilizer chemicals crashed near a middle school in Saydel, IA, spilling its contents into the school’s parking lot.

The driver says the truck’s brakes failed, causing him to lose control, as he struck a pole near Woodside Middle School. The students were evacuated and bussed to a nearby high school while the chemicals were cleaned by the community’s fire department.

Students returned to the middle school later in the day.
