Mid-Am 2008 Student Career Center helps build relationships
5 Dec, 2007 LM Direct!CHICAGO — Continuing a long-standing tradition, full-time horticulture students and prospective employers will gather to forge relationships at the Student Career Center during the Mid-America Horticultural Trade Show (Mid-Am) in Chicago. The annual Mid-Am event attracts more than 600 students from throughout the Midwest who meet with prospective employers to ask questions, learn more about the companies, and make important connections.
Invitations will be distributed to more than 250 colleges, universities, and trade/technical schools that have horticultural programs. Full-time students enrolled in valid horticulture programs who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in horticulture, including high school seniors, are eligible to attend.
Representatives from horticultural companies will be conducting preliminary interviews for internships, summer jobs, and full-time positions. Students are also invited to attend the trade show. Last year, the event attracted 659 students to Chicago's Lakeside Center, one of the largest turnouts in Mid-Am's history. Students interested in attending the Mid-Am Student Career Center should contact their horticulture instructor to register.
Information on hosting a table at the 2008 Student Career Center is being sent to previous participating companies and others in the industry. Nearly 80 companies are expected to participate in the event. Due to space constraints, companies are encouraged to reserve space early; the deadline for reserving a table at the Mid-Am Student Career Center is Friday, December 28, 2007. Companies interested in participating in this popular event should visit the website at www.midam.org for more information and to download a space reservation form or contact Mid-Am at mail@midam.org.
Mid-Am, America’s premier horticultural trade show, is sponsored by the Illinois Green Industry Association (formerly the Illinois Nurserymen's Association), the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, and the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation.
