Scotts Miracle-Gro grows again: acquires Landmark Seed

13 Jun, 2006 LM Week in Review

MARYSVILLE, OH — The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. has made its second major acquisition in the past two weeks, announcing an agreement to purchase Albany, OR-based Landmark Seed Co. for an undisclosed price. This acquisition comes on the heels of Scotts' purchase of Turf Seed, Inc. for approximately $30-$35 million.

According to the company, the combined acquisitions will enhance Scotts Miracle-Gro's position in the global turfgrass seed industry, as Landmark Seed is the fastest growing seed and turfgrass production and marketing company in the Pacific Northwest.

"Over the last five years, Landmark Seed and Scotts Miracle-Gro have established a successful joint venture," said Mark Schwartz, senior vice president and general manager, grass seed, for Scotts. “We are excited to have such a valued partner now a part of our family, and look forward to the new opportunities for growth.”

Personnel from Landmark's Albany office, along with the field sales team, will continue in their present capacities with Scotts. "Our new partnership will allow us to focus more on the needs of our customers, while delivering the highest quality turfgrass and seed varieties in the industry," said Ray Brubakken, president, Landmark Seed.
