Super Lawn Trucks helps fight crime

27 Nov, 2007 LM Direct!

BONAIRE, GA — Working with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Tony Bass and his Super Lawn Trucks company built a specially designed operations vehicle that will carry and transport the law enforcement agency's 21-member tactical team, which responds to volatile situations such as a gunman barricaded in a house.

Sheriff's Capt. Alan Everidge said the $50,000 vehicle was paid for from drug funds generated by court-ordered forfeiture of vehicles and cash seized from convicted drug felons.

"Instead of taxpayers' money, we let the drug dealers pay for it," Everidge said.

The Sheriff's Response Team vehicle is the first law enforcement vehicle the company has designed and outfitted, Bass said.

The company previously designed a lawn care vehicle for the sheriff's office, Bass said, to work in conjunction with the state Department of Corrections inmates who take care of numerous public works lawn projects under the supervision of officers.

But the tactical vehicle is the first made by his company to enhance and aid law enforcement, he said.
