UMass Extension publishes 2006-2007 Professional Guide for IPM in Turf

AMHURST, MA — The UMass Extension recently released the 8th edition of its Professional Guide for IPM in Turf for Massachusetts.

The guide is intended for professional turfgrass managers and municipal and school officials charged with establishing integrated pest management (IPM) programs in their communities.

The guide includes information on alternative and cultural pest control options as well as pesticide selection advice based on least environmental impact.

While certain portions of the guide are specific to Massachusetts, much of the information applies to all the New England states. Topic areas include:

  • latest recommended turfgrass cultivars for MA
  • new water conservation guidelines for MA
  • disease tolerance of selected turfgrass cultivars
  • cultural management guidelines for turf diseases
  • revised fungicide chart w/ new resistance management tools
  • turf pest damage & cultural practice timing charts
  • biological management of turf damaging insects
  • efficiency, residual, and environmental hazards of turf insecticides
  • monitoring and management of turf weeds
  • updated MA pesticide regulation compliance information
