13 Jun, 2006 LM Week in ReviewUmass Extension Green School and June Turf Field DayAMHERST, MA — Registration is now open for UMass Extension's Green School, held in 12 sessions between October 31 and December 12, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel in Milford, MA. Participants can select either the Landscape Management or Turf Management sections. The course is designed for landscape, turf and other horticultural practitioners wishing to gain an understanding of horticulture fundamentals and strategies and their relation to environmental quality. Participants learn how to make environmentally appropriate decisions related to turf and plant selection, plant maintenance, pest and nutrient management. The UMass Turf Research Field Day will be June 21 at the recently dedicated Joseph Troll Turf Research Center on River Road in South Deerfield, MA. Pesticide contact hours will be available for all New England states. 2006 Michigan Garden Plant TourLANSING, MI — Michigan State University (MSU) hosts its third annual Michigan Garden Plant Tour July 31 to August 11. Greenhouse growers, landscapers, and retail garden center employees are invited to visit the five participating companies to see new garden varieties and evaluate plant performance. Six different green houses are participating in the tour, which is open Monday through Friday during normal business hours. On Wednesday, August 2, MSU holds its Garden Plant Showcase which includes educational sessions on a variety of topics.
