WLF announces new turfgrass research fellowship
14 Oct, 2004 LM Week in ReviewMadison, WI The Wisconsin Landscape Federation (WLF) announced the creation of a new Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The new fellowship includes an emphasis on Extension and on the communication of turfgrass research findings, in addition to supporting important research within the fellowship.
Terry and Kathleen Kurth donated $150,000 and the Wisconsin Landscape Federation gave $100,000 to initiate matching funds to finance the investment. Terry Kurth owns Midwest Lawn Care LLC/Weed Man in Middleton, WI. The matching funds came from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the University of Wisconsin Foundation (UWF) and the UW-Madison Graduate School. The University of Wisconsin Foundation will invest the $500,000 bequest. Interest earned will support quality graduate students and turfgrass research in perpetuity.
The Wisconsin Sod Producers Association (WSPA) is working to start the fellowship this year by raising an additional $14,000 needed to hire the first graduate student fellow.
