Brickman unveils hybrid fleet

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Beginning in May, Brickman management will be driving the Toyota Prius hybrid. With this program, Brickman will effectively be replacing almost 500 conventional fuel vehicles with more fuel-efficient cars that achieve 50 miles per gallon and reduce carbon emissions by up to 70% as compared to other new vehicles. In more concrete terms, that’s about 280,000 gallons of fuel saved per year.
“In choosing a company vehicle for management, it just made sense to select the hybrid option,” explains CEO Scott Brickman. “Brickman has always held a strong commitment to the environment and to continuous improvement. This program gives us the ability to offer a valuable benefit to our management team while improving efficiency and reducing our impact on the planet.”
Though Brickman has always been focused on environmental stewardship, company leadership spent the past year exploring how Brickman could become greener in their business practices as well as in the services it offers its customers. For the past several years, Brickman has been piloting alternative fuel equipment in the field, testing hybrid organic products, and standardizing best sustainable practices to share among branch teams. This year they are challenging each of their branch offices to implement more sustainable business practices, from recycling and energy savings, to paperless workflows.
The Prius program was a logical extension of the company vehicle policy, which began two years ago with fuel efficient 4-cylinder Ford Rangers for production managers. The success of that roll-out and the fuel savings achieved across Brickman’s 170 branches helped confirm the decision to implement the Prius program for Account Managers, Branch Managers and other senior leaders of the Company.
The Prius fleet will be outfitted with Brickman’s new Sustainability brand, which sums up the Company’s philosophy toward environmental stewardship: Plant Friendly. Planet Friendly. The branding of the vehicle is a bit of a departure from Brickman’s traditional brown and tan color scheme; it is intended to reflect the Company’s commitment to running a more sustainable business.
The new fleet on the road is just one outward sign of ongoing changes inside the company. Brickman’s goal has been and always will be to make a positive impact on the environment, to leave the planet better than it was before, and to help clients find the balance between fiscally sound property management and long term sustainability.
