Preliminary report shows consumer confidence improving in October
20 Oct, 2003New York The University of Michigan's mid-month report on consumer confidence indicated news of job gains helped push consumer confidence higher in early October. The index rose from 87.7 in September to 89.4 in mid-October, beating economists' forecasts. Government reports that the economy added 57,000 jobs in September helped buoy consumers' spirits. This preliminary October result was based on 250 telephone interviews.
