NewSchool of Architecture and Design Launches Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Program

17 Jun, 2011 LDB Solutions

New degree program focuses on the relationship between built and natural environments.

NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD), San Diego, has launched a four-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program that combines coursework, design studios and practical experience designed to help students develop skills in digital technologies, site engineering and landscape construction practices. Students can enroll now for the fall quarter. Classes start Oct. 3, 2011.

The curriculum includes courses and electives in urban landscape architecture, the eco-urban interface, and design and advocacy for parks, plazas and plantings within urban boundaries. The program prepares students for a range of careers in landscape architecture, including urban and community design, parks design and planning, and opportunities in the fields of environmental restoration, urban redevelopment and urban ecology.

"Rapid urbanization is expanding demand on resources and putting increased pressure on urban ecological boundaries," said Leslie Ryan, chair of the landscape architecture program. "This new program critically examines these conditions, the impact they may have on future cities, and the solutions San Diego's coastal, urban and arid ecologies may provide as a living lab for design and study"
