Spring Marketing Opportunities
20 Mar, 2009 By: Landscape Management Staff LDB SolutionsSpring is in the air. It's time to remind consumers how valuable landscape design-build services are in their daily lives and communities.
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has proclaimed April 2009 as National Landscape Architecture Month. The theme will be “Discover Careers in Landscape Architecture.” ASLA’s 48 chapters across the country will celebrate with public outreach activities to teach school-aged children and educators about the profession. Landscape architects will be planning events all across the country, so be sure to check for events near you.
One resource you can take advantage of in your own outreach efforts are a number of professionally produced videos on YouTube featuring Eddie George. George, the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner who became a star running back for the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys, is also an ASLA member and owner of The EDGE Group. George serves as an official spokesperson on discovering careers in landscape architecture and offers an insightful video about his choice of the profession. Review all the videos on YouTube highlighting the profession and its projects.
The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), is also celebrating April as National Lawn Care Month by reminding consumers about the benefits of a healthy lawn.
Share these benefits of a healthy, well-maintained lawn with your potential customers. According to PLANET:
- More than 30 million acres of lawns exist in the U.S. It is estimated that these lawns remove 5 percent of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as well as provide money-saving cooling effects in the summer months.
- Turf’s power to generate oxygen has a major impact on the environment. A well-maintained, 50-ft. by 50-ft. lawn produces enough oxygen for a family of four.
- Turf also provides pollution control by trapping dust and smoke particles from the atmosphere.
- Grass is a natural air conditioner. Eight healthy front lawns have the cooling effect of 70 tons of air conditioning — enough to cool16 average homes.
- Dense, healthy grass also slows down and filters runoff, removing contaminants and trapping soil. Fresh, filtered water then returns to the underground water supply.
And don't forget about Earth Day.
Zoos, elementary schools, city parks, Boy Scout camps, churches and cemeteries are just a few of the places that will receive special attention on the national PLANET Day of Service this Earth Day, April 22.
PLANET members are undertaking a variety of volunteer lawn and landscape projects in communities across the country to demonstrate the importance of maintaining our green spaces.
Just two days after Earth Day is National Arbor Day on April 24, though some states celebrate on different days to take advantage of the best tree-planting weather. The Arbor Day Foundation has a number of materials you can use to promote the value of trees, along with your tree services.
April certainly is a packed month. It's also National Safe Digging Month. Make sure you and your employees call 811 before you dig.
