Pacific Plug & Liner announces its spring trial introductions for 2011
21 May, 2010 LDB SolutionsEarly start Phlox and new Buddleia colors will be available.
The Phlox Ealry Start Series are new interspecific hybrids bred in Holland and offered as liners from Pacific Plug and Liner. Early Starts are most notable for their ability to flower 4 to 6 weeks earlier than traditional paniculata type phlox, according to the company, so they bring color to the landscape just at the break of spring.
The series is currently available in three colors: pink, light pink and velvet. The compact plants have flowers that will reach 8-12 in. while in the container. Early Starts are densely branched and will bloom April through July.
Early Starts are hardy to USDA zone 5 and do best in full sun. They will reach a height of 10 in. with a spread of 12 in. in soil with good drainage and regular moisture.
Pacific Plug and Liner is also introducing three additional colors in a Buddleia that the company says is a result of 10 years of breeding in Europe by Thompson and Morgan. A small rollout in late 2009 brought violet and pink purple to the market, and now landscapers can look forward to blue violet, ivory, and magenta purple.
The Buddleia Buzz series is a group of compact plants that are well suited for containers and smaller beds. In the landscape, Buzz will reach a height of 36 in., yet will remain at 24 in. in a garden container.
Buzz benefits from pruning and deadheading. It produces large blooms spring through fall and is hardy to USDA Zone 5.
