Proscape was awarded the task to maintain the grounds of a residential community located on the Atlantic Ocean, consisting of 100 units ranging in price from $550,000 to $1.6 million. The grounds encompass extensive amounts of private patios, courtyards and planting beds that use a broad palette of native plant material.

The difficulties in maintaining the property to the owners' high standards are "numerous," Pontarelli says. Very small planting areas, turf areas and courtyards leave no room for imperfection, as every detail is noticeable. |

"We desired to manage a demanding and elaborate property," Pontarelli says, adding that this account "does not disappoint, with its stringent budget and requests for a high level of customer service." |
This project won a 2010 Grand Award in the Professional Landcare Network's 41st Annual Environmental Improvement Awards program. For more information, visit LandcareNetwork.org.

The site requires one of Proscape's full-time gardeners and a helper to care for the assortment of broadleaf evergreens, roses (12 varieties!), other deciduous material, perennials and potted displays. Proscape also has a two-person crew to maintain the turf by performing routine maintenance.
"Part of our commitment to excellent customer service includes wiping down any trace of grass cutting from entry doors, doorways and building exteriors, as our clients do not want any trace of debris on the property," notes Proscape CEO John Pontarelli. "A bi-monthly walk-through is performed, allowing us to recommend enhancements and moving or replacing existing material."
Harsh ocean winds and salt spray also play a challenging role, as the property sits just a few yards from the Atlantic.
Turf and planting beds must be closely monitored for watering, and supplmented with applications of products such as micronutrients and organic matter. The site also lies in an area experiencing drought conditions, resulting in water restrictions.
