Best new waterlillies named

The International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society (IWGS) has named the winners of its New Waterlily Competition. For the first time, a hardy waterlily was named the Best New Waterlily of the year.

Nymphaea 'Wanvisa'

Nymphaea 'Wanvisa' was named Best New Waterlily and the Best New Hardy. Nymphaea 'Pink Dawn' finished second in the hardy competition.

Nymphaea 'Bimini Twist' from Florida Aquatic Nurseries was named second best new waterlily and the Best New Tropical waterlily. 'Tropical TBA-01' from Luster Aquatic Nurseries, Florida, was second.

Best New Tropical Night-Blooming Waterlily was Nymphaea 'Maeploi.' Second in the category was Nymphaea 'Ploi Praow.'

In a category new to this year's competition, Nymphaea 'Siam Pink,' was named Best New Intersubgeneric Waterlily. It was the only entrant.

The waterlilies were grown out at The Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. Photographs of the entries were reviewed by a panel of 12 international judges.
