Reflecting back on the past year

8 Dec, 2011 By: Warren Gorowitz, CLIA, Ewing Irrigation i-news

It’s hard to believe that 2011 is drawing to a close. This year has certainly been challenging. We pressed on, hoping that the economy would turn around, and that it would be heading in a positive direction by now. While there have been some positive signs of growth this past year, we still have a long road ahead of us.

Here’s a quick look back on some of the topics that we discussed in this column over the past year:

  • Fix-A-Leak Week. We focused on education and awareness for employees and customers about water loss and its associated costs and opportunities for repairs.
  • Alternative Water Sources. We addressed the question, “Where will the future water for our landscapes come from?”
  • Sustainability. We explored the concept of sustainability and its role in the future of the Green Industry.
  • SMART Irrigation Month. We discussed our opportunity to leverage the Irrigation Association campaign to promote water efficient practices and products in July, and every month throughout the year.
  • Key Findings and Trends. We shared highlights from the Irrigation Association and American Society of Irrigation Consultants joint Water Conference aimed at viewing things from a different perspective.
  • EPA WaterSense Label for Weather Based Irrigation Controllers. We helped readers get up to speed on the latest WaterSense program and what to expect.
  • Flow Management. We discussed flow-sensing technology, and the idea that you can’t manage what you can’t measure.

Hopefully, we’ve provided you with some alternative ways to think about irrigation, as well as some new ideas and opportunities for your business.
