Florida landscaper wins positive press as youngest US Lawns franchise owner

On December 3, 2003, the Ocala Star Banner published a story profiling the 23-year-old businessman who built his franchise to about $500,000 amd 18 employees in the strongly competitive business environment of Marion County, FL.
Walter Wright, the owner of the Broward County U.S. Lawns franchise, hired Maya as a laborer in 1998. Wright helped Maya win financing assistance from U.S. Lawns' parent company, ValleyCrest. Now Maya's clients include AmSouth Bank, Banc of America, Publix and Winn-Dixie, among others.
Age wasn't Maya's only obstacle when he decided to try to start his own business. He was a high-school dropout and still recovering from serious injuries sustained when he fell from a crane while pruning a tree.
