Lawn mowing mailman makes a difference to elderly

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — According to an article from United Press International, a letter carrier in St. Petersburg, FL, spends much of his off-hours on his route, mowing lawns for elderly and disabled residents.

"It's just my little way of making a difference," Eric Wills told the Tampa Tribune.

Wills has been on the same route for about six years, delivering mail to almost 500 people. Once he had been doing it for a while he realized that some of his customers got no other visitors.

He began mowing lawns about two years ago. After weeks of grousing to himself about one elderly man whose yard had become a jungle-like thicket of overgrown grass and vines, he decided that it was his job to do something about it, so he returned after work with his lawn mower.

Wills now takes care of about 15 yards on his route and has a homemade trailer with a sign that says "Lawns for the Lord." He does other chores as well and even brought his 7-year-old daughter to play the piano and visit with an elderly shut-in.
