More than 155 perennial customers from roughly 50 represented companies came to the Darwin Perennials Day Inaugural Showcase last week. Visitors toured The Gardens at Ball in West Chicago and found all the perennial classes they were looking for – in both the landscape and containers.

Darwin Perennials is Ball Horticultural Company’s perennial brand name for the North American horticulture trade. Darwin includes a number of products, including clean-stock unrooted cuttings and liners, bare root, and seed.

In addition, a 2010 consumer research study conducted on perennials was unveiled. In three focus groups conducted across the country, more than 250 participants expressed their thoughts on perennials, shared their perennial shopping experiences, and weighed in on the challenges of landscaping with these plants.

Tours of The Gardens at Ball showcased six stations staffed by Darwin Perennials experts. They educated guests on all of the new varieties of first year-flowering perennials from seed, as well as vegetative perennials.

“The Darwin Perennials team was very happy with this inaugural showcase,” says Mike Klopmeyer, Darwin Perennials general manager. “Darwin Perennials Day was a great way for our customers to gather first-hand variety and culture information from perennial experts on key genera and the exciting new varieties in our program, and we welcomed the feedback and insight we received from our guests.”
