Sour Wood (oxydendrum arboretum), is a deciduous broadleaf tree with a pyramid shape. It blooms with fragrant white flowers and the foliage turns red in the fall. It also displays seed pods that last into the fall. This slow-growing tree is hardy in zones 6-9. It can reach heights of 20 to 30 ft. and widths from 10 to 15 ft. Sour Wood, also known as Sorrel, has a shallow root system and prefers sun to partial shade and dry or well-drained soil.
