OLCA elects 2010 officers, trustees

ZANESVILLE, OH — The Ohio Lawn Care Association (OLCA) recently announced the election of officers and trustees to its 2010 Board of Directors. Officers serve a one-year term and trustees serve three-year terms that began March 1. The OLCA announced the following officers and trustees who will lead the association into the future:

President - Mike Sloma, Agrium Advanced Technologies, Columbus. Sloma has served on the board of directors since 2006. He attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1992 with a degree in turf management. He worked as a golf course superintendent at Whetstone Golf Course near Marion for four years. He then went into sales selling Hunter Golf Irrigation for seven years. He joined UAP, now Agrium, in November 2003 selling chemicals and fertilizer to golf courses, lawn care companies and nurseries.
Vice President - Chris Spellacy, Spellacy's Turf Lawn, Galena. Spellacy attended The Ohio State University where he studied business management. He founded Spellacy's Turf Lawn in 1978 and has operated the full-service landscape firm ever since. He has served on the board of trustees since 2006.
Secretary/Treasurer - Jeff Benton, St. Clair Lawn Care, St. Clairsville. Benton has served on the Board of Directors since 2004. He graduated from The Ohio State University in turfgrass management and is very active in his community.
Immediate Past President - Scott Huvler, TD Landscape, Mt. Vernon. Huvler began working for the Turf Doctor Corp. in the summer of 1988 as a lawn care technician. He served as a general manager of the lawn care division until the fall of 2004, and then became general manager of the landscape division. TD Landscape was established in 2006, where he is currently vice president of operations.
Trustee - Ray Iacobucci, TruGreen, Lewis Center. Iacobucci has been with TruGreen for 21 years and has filled positions as area manager for TruGreen
LandCare; field manager at two TruGreen lawn care branch locations; and manager of technical services for TruGreen's corporate operations. Currently, he is the region technical manager for TruGreen, a position he has held the past four years. Prior to TruGreen, he was a horticulture instructor at Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Littleton, MA. He has a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1981 with a minor in education.
Trustee - Andy Kaler, Dow AgroSciences, Dublin. Kaler has been the territory manager for Dow AgroSciences since 2007. He received his bachelor's of arts degree in business management from Cornerstone University.
