PLANET expands children's program for July event

1 Jun, 2010 LM Direct!

HERNDON, VA — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has announced that it is expanding the children’s program at the 14th Annual Renewal & Remembrance event, which will be held Monday, July 19, 2010, at Arlington National Cemetery.

The event has grown to involve hundreds of companies, many of whom come every year. As this day of service has grown, more and more PLANET members bring their families, and over the years, volunteers have created projects for the children of the members so that the children can get as much out of the event as the adults. In recent years, the children have planted flowers around Arlington National Cemetery, participated in the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and toured key sites around the cemetery.

This year they will again participate in the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as in the planting program. New to the children’s program this year will be a presentation by a member of the cemetery’s staff about its history and operations. This will add to the children’s experience by illuminating the importance of caring for this historic landmark.

“We are lucky to have such a wonderful partnership with Arlington National Cemetery and are so pleased that they are giving the children this opportunity to learn about its history,” said Walter Wray, Landscape Industry Certified Technician, Renewal and Remembrance chair. “We consider it a privilege to work on this project every year.”

The Irrigation Association will partner with PLANET to host this year’s event, and the event sponsors at the Platinum level include Husqvarna Outdoor Products and Syngenta.
