PLANET names Phelps to Board
13 May, 2010 LM Direct!VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) recently announced at its Executive Forum in Las Vegas that Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for Stihl Inc., will be director at large for the 2010/2011 PLANET board of directors.
"PLANET is an important part of the Green Industry, and I am proud to play a part in the work that it does," said Phelps. "Through marketing tools, industry-specific business publications, updates on legislative issues, and networking opportunities, PLANET supports the member businesses that contribute to our communities' green spaces and quality of life."
Phelps, a Navy veteran, joined Stihl in 2001 as the company's event marketing specialist. In 2003, he was promoted to his present position as promotional communications manager and is responsible for sponsorships, public relations, event marketing, social media, and trade shows. The promotional communications team produces events like the Stihl Timbersports Series, manages event marketing and PR relationships with people and events such as Stihl Dogs and Logs World Championships, Stihl Tour des Trees, National FFA Foundation, and garden and lifestyle expert P. Allen Smith, and association relationships like the National Association of State Park Directors, International Society of Arboriculture, Tree Care Industry Association, and PLANET. Phelps is also part of the Stihl environmental stewardship team.
Phelps participated in PLANET's 2009 Crystal Ball committee, which produced the report on the sustainability in the green industry. He was also PLANET¹s 2009 Supplier Committee chair and is a member of PLANET¹s government affairs, membership, PLANET Student Career Days and education committees, and was a panel member on sustainability at the 2009 Green Industry Conference.
As a director at large on PLANET¹s 2010/2011 board of directors, his main responsibility will be to uphold PLANET¹s mission to maintain the quality of life in communities across America.
