PLANET to participate in DOL Safety Day
1 Jun, 2010 LM Direct!HERNDON, VA — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has been invited to participate in the annual U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Safety Day on June 9, 2010, in Washington. This marks the fourth year that PLANET has participated in the event as part of PLANET’s alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Plans for this year’s DOL Safety Day, the theme of which is “Ergonomics — It’s the Safe Move for You,” are being coordinated by OSHA and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration.
The purpose of DOL Safety Day is to underscore the importance of daily vigilance and practice of safety procedures, at home and work, in support of the DOL’s efforts to prevent employee injuries and illnesses. The DOL is also focusing on safety and health precautions that employees can take at work, home, and in the community.
Activities scheduled for this year’s Safety Day include a keynote speech by Certified Professional Ergonomist Haley Kaye, as well as safety- and health-related exhibits and services. Jeff Graham, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, chair of PLANET’s Safety and Risk Management Committee, is excited about the continuing growth of the safety culture in the green industry.
“This event,” he states, “is another example of the benefit of the PLANET OSHA Alliance. The DOL Safety Day will be another learning opportunity for our association on a topic that affects us all on a daily basis, ergonomics.”
