TruGreen settles with NY state attorney office

MEMPHIS, TN — TruGreen has agreed to settle with the New York Attorney General's office over allegations that it billed customers for unauthorized services and failed to respond to cancellation requests in a timely manner.

According to reports, it will pay $55,000 in penalties and reimburse consumers who were involved in the complaint. TruGreen also agreed to revise its contract language.

In a statement, company spokeswoman Susanna Weston said that "TruGreen has worked closely with the state to address its concerns and taken steps to better clarify messages to our customer. TruGreen has and will continue to work with the state to ensure our practices and business model conform fully with New York consumer protection law.”
