A look back: Labor shortage, nothing new

The labor shortage is nothing new in the green industry, as Cabot L. Jaffee, Ph.D., wrote in this October 1989 article, “It’s not just a problem of finding people. It’s a problem of selecting and developing good supervisors in order to cut down on turnover and therefore create less need to find new people.” As this month’s cover story found, landscape companies are unable to book as much work as they would like, due to the lack of people to complete it. In other words, the work is there, but the workers are not.
