ASLA recognizes 2020 Honors recipients
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) named the 2020 Honors recipients.
Selected by ASLA’s Board of Trustees, the honors represent the highest recognition ASLA bestows each year.
Anne Whiston Spirn, FASLA
In recognition of her lifetime of achievements as an author, professor and thought leader in landscape architecture; her groundbreaking work in the field, including her book “Granite Garden” and the West Philadelphia Landscape Project; and for her continuing drive to promote environmental justice, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded the 2020 ASLA Medal to Anne Whiston Spirn, FASLA.
Martha Schwartz, FASLA
In recognition of nearly four decades of exceptional design in the built environment, the American Society of Landscape Architects bestowed the 2020 ASLA Design Medal to Martha Schwartz, FASLA.
Glen Dake, FASLA
In recognition of his lifetime of service as a community builder, activist and leader, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded the 2020 ASLA Community Service Award to Glen Dake, FASLA.
Stephanie Rolley, FASLA
In recognition of her work to mold the next generation of landscape architecture professionals, through her work in the classroom or her leadership at the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF), the American Society of Landscape Architects bestowed The Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal to Stephanie Rolley, FASLA.
Dan Wenk
In recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication to preserving and enhancing America’s cultural landscapes and natural resources, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded The LaGasse Medal – Landscape Architect Professional to Dan Wenk.
Tom O’Rourke
In recognition of a career fighting for the preservation of public lands and the judicious use of natural resources for the benefit of all, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded The LaGasse Medal – Non-Landscape Architect Professional to Tom O’Rourke.
James Corner Field Operations
In recognition of the distinguished national and international body of work and its leadership in increasing the visibility and relevance of landscape architecture around the globe, the American Society of Landscape Architects bestowed The Landscape Architecture Firm Award to James Corner Field Operations.
Paul Busse
In recognition of his invaluable contributions to society’s understanding of the value of landscape design and the natural world, the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded the Landscape Architecture Medal of Excellence to the Paul Busse.
The Garden Conservancy
In recognition of his career-long commitment to environmental leadership, stewardship and preservation, the American Society of Landscape Architects bestowed The Olmsted Medal to The Garden Conservancy.
Diana Fernandez Bibeau, ASLA
In recognition of her exceptional contributions in academia, in practice and in shaping the profession of landscape architecture in the first decade of her career, the American Society of Landscape Architects is proud to award the Emerging Professionals Medal to
In addition, ASLA inducted eight honorary members. Honorary membership is among the greatest honors for nonlandscape architecture professionals in recognition of notable service to the profession. Since its inception in 1899, ASLA has inducted only 237 honorary members.
