Maffei Landscape Contractors, based in Mashpee, Mass., partnered with Chenmark Capital Management, based in Portland, Maine. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Founder and CEO Robert Maffei, who began Maffei Landscape while in high school in 1991, will remain CEO. The full-service company has more than 100 employees.

Chenmark Capital is a family investment firm focused on acquiring and supporting the operations of small businesses throughout North America. It acquired Seabreeze Property Management in 2015 and Piscataqua Landscaping & Tree Service last year.

“Over the years, I have continually sought ways to grow the business and insert the right capital to get to the next level,” said Maffei. “Chenmark Capital Management will help us do that.  Their vision and resources will allow us to continue growing, offer more innovative services, and create new career opportunities.”

Chenmark is operated by Palmer, James and Trish Higgins. Palmer and James Higgins are brothers; Trish Higgins is married to James. All three left traditional jobs in finance to buy and build a small business; they were profiled in an article in the New York Times and a follow-up story outlining some of their progress and challenges.

“We are excited to welcome Maffei Landscape to the Chenmark family,” said James Higgins.  “We are tremendously impressed with Bob and his team and look forward to helping the company continue its tradition of providing best-in-class service to leading property owners in the greater Cape Cod area.”
