More than a thousand employees from The Davey Tree Expert Co. are helping with recovery from Hurricane Irma by identifying tree hazards and removing them to help power companies to restore electricity quickly.
Crews traveled to their locations last week so they could be ready to respond quickly after the storm subsided. While waiting for the storm to hit, crews reviewed safety procedures, prepared equipment and rode out the storm.
“We cannot fully express how proud we are of these employees who chose to help with storm recovery,” said Pat Covey, president and CEO. “We are grateful, our clients are grateful, and the public is grateful for their service. They will be working hard under difficult circumstances for many days, and, above all, our hope is that they come home safely.”
In other Davey news, the company ranked as the 13th largest employee-owned company in the U.S., according to a report from the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO).
The NCEO’s 2017 Employee Ownership 100 list includes the nation’s largest companies that are at least 50 percent owned by an employee stock ownership plan or other broad-based employee ownership plan. Davey has been an employee-owned company for 38 years after employees purchased the company from the John Davey family.
