Companies in the News: LawnGuru closes $1M seed funding round; more from Aquascape, Heaviland, Stay Green, Swingle

LawnGuru, the on-demand marketplace for lawn mowing and snow removal services, closed a $1 million seed funding round. The company, which recently moved its headquarters to Ann Arbor, Mich., will use the investment for national growth and research and development. It also plans to release a new Android version of its app this summer. According to a press release, the company’s revenue has grown by 1100 percent since 2015.

Aquascape, a manufacturer of irrigation products, was named one of the healthiest companies in America by Interactive Health, which works to improve employee health. Aquascape was one of 154 companies nationwide recognized for helping employees improve their health. Seventy percent of the company’s employees participate in wellness initiatives, and its headquarters has a 5,000-square-foot fitness facility for employees and their families.

Heaviland Landscape Management, a San Diego-based commercial landscape management company, pledged to support charity: water, a nonprofit organization which provides to people in developing nations. The company will donate 1 percent of the annualized contracted amount of any new landscape maintenance or construction project. Witnessing the drought in California drove the decision to support a water-related charity, the company said. Founded in 2006, charity: water has helped fund 19,819 projects in 24 countries, giving more than 6.1 million people access to clean water. Stay Green, a landscape maintenance and tree care company in Santa Clarita, Calif., won seven awards at the San Fernando Valley chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association’s (CLCA) 57th annual Landscape Beautification Awards. The award was presented at the Landscape Beautification Awards Banquet July 9. The company won two first-place awards for medium commercial maintenance and public works maintenance and four Outstanding Achievement awards for small commercial maintenance, medium commercial maintenance, small HOA maintenance and Large HOA maintenance.

Swingle Lawn, Tree & Landscape Care was awarded the 2016 Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Employer Safety Award. The award is a part of the state’s Premium Cost Containment Program, a initiative with more than 6,000 employer members to control injuries and insurance-related costs. Swingle has been certified by the program since 1992. The awards were announced during a reception at the Governor’s Executive Residence July 20.
