Takeuchi donates excavator and engine to college and career center
Takeuchi-US recently donated a TB235-2 excavator and a diesel engine, valued together at approximately $70K, to Empower College & Career Center’s Heavy Machinery in Jackson County, Ga., as a part of its ongoing philanthropic program, “Takeuchi Gives.”
“It’s our hope that this donation will give students the kind of real-life experiences that will help them choose and follow the right career paths,” said Susan Dean, director of business technology for Takeuchi-US.
Empower College & Career Center (EmpowerC3) is an educational partnership with businesses in Jackson County and the surrounding area. EmpowerC3 engages high school students in career-relevant learning experiences. By working closely with local businesses and industries, higher education and the entire community, EmpowerC3 students are better positioned to reach their college and career aspirations.
Home Depot marks Pro Xtra Week
The Home Depot announced the return of Pro Xtra Week, a biannual week-long event offering special giveaways, vendor demos, as well as exclusive savings on tools and supplies both in-store and online for the company’s loyalty program. Pro Xtra Week takes place Sept. 18-24, 2023.
In select markets, members can enjoy a free Dunkin’ iced coffee or Dunkin’ Refresher, which they can pick up at the Dunkin’ community cruiser stationed at their local Home Depot stores. When Pro Xtra members scan their Virtual ID in the mobile app at participating community cruisers, they will also receive a Dunkin’ eGift Card.
Blackstone Landscaping and Construction opens new location
As reported in The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register, Blackstone Landscaping and Construction, a provider of residential landscaping, pool installations, design/build and residential and commercial excavation, in Moundsville, W.Va., opened a new location in Wheeling, W.Va., to expand its customer base.
Sod Solutions receives communication awards
Sod Solutions recently received the 2023 media awards silver and gold laurel medal of achievement for digital media: video, presented by GardenComm: Garden Communicators International.
This national award recognizes individuals and companies in garden communications. The 2023 competition had 121 entries in 39 categories. Recipients of the awards represent the best in their category.
Sod Solutions received the silver and gold laurel medals of achievement for an educational video entitled “How to Lay Sod” from its lawn and garden blog for homeowners, Sod University. Sod University aims to empower consumers by educating them on lawn and garden care techniques in ways that each person can contribute to the planet’s health.

Participants can earn additional contest entries for each qualifying Corteva brand purchased from Advanced Turf Solutions during the early order period from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.

Pioneer Landscape Centers joins SiteOne Landscape Supply
SiteOne Landscape Supply acquired Pioneer Landscape Centers, a wholesale distributor of hardscapes and landscape supply products, including bulk materials, decorative rock, pavers, artificial turf, and supporting products, with 35 branches across the Colorado and Arizona markets.
This is the eighth acquisition in 2023 for SiteOne.
Kirby-Smith Machinery new Mobark dealer
Morbark selects Kirby-Smith Machinery as an authorized dealer for all Morbark, Rayco, Denis Cimaf and Boxer equipment product lines in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Western Illinois.
Kirby-Smith has been in operation since 1983 as a full-service dealer. Mobark said the Kirby-Smith branch locations in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, McAlester, St. Louis and Kansas City will provide customers in the region with greater accessibility to its product lines.

Spring Touch Lawn & Pest Control Celebrates 50th anniversary
Spring Touch Lawn & Pest Control marks its 50th anniversary. Owner Marv Kottke started his lawn care business in the summer of 1973 as a neighborhood mowing service as a middle schooler in Mankato, Minn. His business continued to grow when Kottke entered high school and continued to grow as he attended college at Mankato State University and the University of Minnesota.
Kottke hired his first employee in 1989, who remains with the company as an irrigation technician.
The company now has 90 employees and offers lawn care, perimeter insect control, organic lawn care and mosquito and flea and tick control.
