The Davey Tree Expert Co. announced it has expanded in Raleigh, N.C., and opened another office in Cincinnati, Ohio, in addition to an acquisition it made in St. Paul, Minn.
“These additions will strengthen Davey’s presence in both North Carolina and Ohio,” said Jim Stief, executive vice president of U.S. residential operations. “It will bring us additional regional business expertise, talented arborists and allow us to serve our customers better.”
Green Tree Experts Inc., of Raleigh, N.C., was merged into Davey Tree’s existing Raleigh office and will be managed by Davey’s Keith Wright. Green Tree was established in 1982, and offered all aspects of residential tree care, including tree preservation, consultation and diagnosis and hazardous tree removal. Owner and founder Derek Green said he chose Davey Tree because the two companies both emphasize high-quality work, completed by hard-working and dedicated employees.
“The difficult decision to step back from the business was made easier knowing that Davey Tree shares our commitment to quality tree care and customer service,” Green said. “We also appreciated the company’s commitment to employee ownership, and the opportunities it provides to our employees.”
This acquisition is Davey’s sixteenth in the past five years and is part of a larger growth and expansion strategy. Green Tree’s clients, accounts and employees have been merged into Davey’s existing Raleigh office.
In Cincinnati, the existing office, run by Rick Hannah, will serve southern Cincinnati and the new office, managed by Jason Muchmore, will serve northern Cincinnati.
Jim Stief, executive vice president of U.S. residential operations, stressed that Davey’s customers will also be better served by the additional Davey presence. “We will be better positioned to serve our existing clients,” Stief said. “With this new territory, we’ll have a group of individuals focused on a small, rapidly growing area.”
In the first quarter of this year, Davey acquired S&S Tree and Landscaping Specialists. The St. Paul, Minn., company provides tree, landscape and lawn services and will continue to operate under its existing name as a division of The Davey Company.
S&S was established in 1976, when Steve Sylvester started the company as a general landscaping business. Today, it includes more than 75 employees, many of whom are International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborists. The addition of S&S means that Davey now has three offices in the greater St. Paul/Minneapolis region.
“S&S was a welcome addition to Davey Tree,” said Stief. “Both S&S and Davey are actively involved in efforts to preserve and improve the health and beauty of our environment and are committed to supporting the highest professional standards.”
