GPS helps recover stolen landscape equipment

|

GPS units helped authorities locate thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from ArtisTree Landscape Maintenance & Design’s North Sarasota, Fla., shop Sept. 27, Fox13News.com reports.

After cutting a hole in a chain-linked fence to gain access to the company’s property, a group of men used an axe to break through a cinder-block wall and disable the shop’s alarm and phone lines. The group then loaded $80,500 worth of mowers, edgers, blowers and more into a panel van and fled with a stolen work truck.

The truck’s GPS system led authorities to a home in Miami, where they found the stolen truck and mowers. Police matched the serial numbers to the missing mowers and arrested Rauniel Quintero, 32, on charges of dealing with stolen property.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of Miami authorities, is still searching for about $30,000 worth of missing equipment.
