Makita launches gas-, battery-powered tools

Makita launched three new cordless battery-powered solutions, four new tools powered by its MM4 four-stroke engine lineup and a new two-stroke chainsaw.

18-V X2 LXT cordless battery-powered solutions

Makita launched three new tools powered by its 18-V X2 (36-V) LXT battery:

  • LXT Brushless Multi-Function Power Head (XUX01Z): The brushless motor has a quick-release couple-shaft attachment that can be used with multiple attachments for trimming, edging, cultivating and brush cutting. All attachments are also compatible with the new 25.4cc MM4 4-Stroke Couple Shaft Trimmer. The power head is available in Spring 2018.
  • 18V X2 (36V) LXT Brushless 16-inch chainsaw (XCU04Z): Available now, this new model gives users more capacity with a 16-inch bar and chain.
  • 18V X2 LXT Brushless Cordless Power-Assisted wheelbarrow (XUC01): This new power-assisted wheelbarrow helps transport material across the job site. Users can interchange Makita 18-volt batteries and get up to two hours of run time under load using two 6.0Ah batteries, the company said. Its weight capacity is 275 pounds. With two speed settings, it has a a maximum speed of 2.5 mph on a 12-degree incline. The wheelbarrow is available now.

MM4 Four-Stroke Engine 

Makita’s four-stroke engine is designed to be cleaner-burning with quieter operation, easier start-ups and the convenience of no fuel mixing, the company said.

Makita introduced four new additions to the MM4 four-Stroke Engine line-up:

  • 75.6cc MM4 four-Stroke Engine Backpack Blower (EB7660TH): The 75.6cc commercial-duty four-stroke engine delivers a maximum air speed of 206 mph and a maximum air volume of 706 cubic feet per minute with noise levels at just 76dB(A). A hip throttle model (EB7660WH) is also available. Both models are available now.
  • 50cc MM4 Four-Stroke Engine Backpack Blower (EB5300TH): The 50cc commercial-duty four-stroke engine delivers a maximum air speed of 184 mph and a maximum air volume of 516 cubic feet per minute. A hip throttle model (EB5300WH) is also available. Both models are available in spring.
  • 25.4 cc MM4 Four-Stroke Couple Shaft Trimmer (EX2650LH): On top of the advantages from the four-stroke engine, this shaft trimmer has a quick release couple shaft attachment that that can be used with multiple attachments for trimming, edging, cultivating, and brush cutting. All attachments are also compatible with the new 18-V X2 (36-V) LXT Power Head, model XUX01. This model is available in Spring 2018.

Finally, Makita expanded its line of chainsaws.

With the 20-inch 56cc chainsaw, the company is offering 4-hp, an engine speed of 13,8000 rpm and the Easy Start spring-assisted starter. The heavy-duty cartridge filter system increases durability while reducing frequency of maintenance, the company said. The model is available now.
