People on the Move: Davey promotes 2 to vp positions; Canopy CEO presents at CO2 conference

The Davey Tree Expert Co. promoted Larry Evans to vice president and general manager of the Davey Tree Surgery Co., a subsidiary of Davey Tree. Evans started with Davey in 1980 and moved up through the ranks of climber, foreman, district foreman and area supervisor in his first ten years. In 1997, he was promoted to account manager and then again to operations manager in 2003. In 2006, Evans was named vice president, and in 2012 he was promoted to senior vice president.
“Larry has been a consistent and tenacious supporter of his people and the Davey Company. He has a relentless drive to improve every situation,” said Pat Covey, president and CEO of Davey Tree. “Throughout his career, he has provided our clients in the western United States with an unmatched commitment to safety, service and superior performance.”
Evans is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist Utility Specialist and past member of the Davey President’s Council.
In other Davey news, the company promoted Joe Tommasi to vice president of Corporate Safety.
Tommasi started on a utility line clearance crew in New York in 1972 and has been a safety leader in the green industry for more than 35 years. He joined Davey in 1994 as safety manager and has held progressive roles of responsibility in safety and risk management since then.
“Over his career, Joe’s passion and commitment to continuous safety improvement have not only made the Davey Company a far safer place to work, but have enhanced the safety environment for all arborists,” said Covey. “His leadership and guidance on the committees and boards he has served on have elevated the safety culture and performance of our entire industry.”
Tommasi has been involved with several industry groups throughout his time with Davey, including Tree Care Industry Association safety committee, International Society of Arboriculture, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z133 safety committee, Edison Electric Institute Safety Committee and OSHA rulemaking task groups. He is also a member of the Utility Arborist Association, American Society of Engineers and The Utility Line Clearance Coalition.
Hunt Davis, CEO of Canopy Lawn Care, was one of the featured presenters at the CO2 conference in Raleigh, N.C. Hosted by Coalmarch Productions, CO2 is a two-day owner’s summit and conference for service industry leaders.
