Proven Winners names plant of the year
Proven Winners ColorChoice Flowering Shrubs, the brand name of Spring Meadow Nursery located in Grand Haven, Mich., selected Yuki Cherry Blossom deutzia as the 2017 plant of the year.
Introduced in 2014, its popularity has skyrocketed among landscapers, gardeners and homeowners, and it is a top seller in the marketplace, the company said.
Over 10 years in the making, Yuki Cherry Blossom deutzia is the first ‘Nikko’-type deutzia with pink flowers. This deer resistant dwarf plant features pink flowers and grows to be 1-2 feet tall and wide, the company said.
In September, Yuki Cherry Blossom was awarded a Silver Medal from The Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society at the 34th Annual Plantarium show held in the Netherlands. This deutzia is the breeding of Tom Ranney, Ph.D., a professor and researcher at North Carolina State University.
