Raleigh-based Canopy expands, moves into Charlotte

|

CanopyCanopy Lawn Care, a tech-enabled landscape startup in Raleigh, N.C., has entered the Charlotte, N.C., market by acquiring the residential maintenance segment of Huntersville, N.C.-based Southscape Landscaping.

“We couldn’t be happier to now be serving customers in Charlotte,” said Keith Freeman, COO for Canopy Lawn Care. “Southscape has built a reputation of providing dedicated, high quality landscape management service for their customers and we look forward to continuing to provide their residential customers with the level of service they have come to expect, hopefully doing even better.”

The company, which launched last year, added nine team members in Charlotte through the acquisition.

“We are very much looking forward to the partnership with Canopy Lawn Care due to the innovative approach they take regarding residential maintenance service,” said Sean Stanley, owner of Southscape Landscaping. “Southscape Landscaping and Canopy will carry on a symbiotic relationship that complements both of their strengths. Canopy as the premier provider of residential maintenance services and Southscape as a landscape design/build/swimming pool construction firm.”

It’s not the only move Canopy made recently. In January, it acquired Grass Monkey, a residential lawn care company based in Raleigh. Grass Monkey Owner Kevin Moser also joined the Canopy team.

“At Grass Monkey my goals were to provide exceptional landscape services, focused on agronomic principles, attention to detail and personalized customer service,” Moser said. “I feel that Canopy shares these goals and also has the talent, vision and ambition to improve upon them by uplifting the experience for consumers. I am excited to join the Canopy team and play a role in transforming the landscape industry for the better.”

Canopy raised $2 million in a fundraising round in late 2016 and partnered with Greenscape in Holly Springs, N.C., acquiring the company’s 120 residential customers. Greenscape ranked No. 115 on the 2016 LM150 list. Canopy also brought Keith Freeman on board as COO in January.
