Ruppert grows, adds employees

RuppertRuppert Landscape announced a slew of personnel changes and new hires in three of its branches.

The full-service company, based in Laytonsville, Md., was listed No. 11 on the LM150 list with $110,000,000 in annual revenue.

Company President Phil Key attributes the growth to the company “showing a pattern of steady growth in the last few years.”

“We are excited about the continued growth of the company and (these employees’) vital roles in that development,” he said.

Raleigh, N.C., landscape management branch

The company hired Joseph Phillips as area manager. He graduated in 1981 from the Ohio State University with an associate degree in horticultural science. With more than 35 years of experience, Phillips is a Certified Landscape Technician (CLT), Certified Snow Professional (CSP), Certified Landscape Professional (CLP) and ISA-certified arborist.

Kevin Wetzonis also was promoted to area manager. He has been with the company since he was hired as a crewman in 2003. Most recently, he served as enhancement manager, the position in which his work earned him the company’s Branch Impact award.

Stephanie Carrillo was promoted to business developer. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2011 with degrees in Spanish and literature. Ruppert hired her three years ago as branch administer and contract administrator. She won a Branch Impact award in her first year with the company.

Laytonsville, Md., headquarters

Amanda Timmins was added as payroll specialist. After earning an associate degree from Montgomery College in general studies, Timmins gained industry experience serving a different organization as branch administrator, fleet specialist and telecommunications specialist.

Logan Minor was hired as junior developer with the IT staff. He graduated from Towson University in June with a bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in project management and business analysis.

Nick Mursin was hired as staff accountant. He graduated from Marymount University in 1993 with a master’s of business administration in accounting and finance. He has 17 years of accounting experience, 11 of which relate to construction and landscape.

Camily Bishop was hired as communications coordinator. She graduated from Towson University in 2013 with a bachelor’s in mass communication with a dual concentration in public relations and advertising. She has two years of experience in this field.

Forestville, Md., landscape management branch

Betsy Hernandez was hired as area manager. She studied at the University of Maryland University Campus and graduated from Montgomery College in 2008 with an associate degree in criminal justice. She has more than 15 years of industry experience in both residential and commercial landscape.

Alex Spychalski was also hired as area manager. He holds an associate degree in applied science in landscape contracting from SUNY Delhi and a bachelor’s in plant science from SUNY Cobleskill. Spychalski started with Ruppert as an intern while studying at SUNY Cobleskill. Upon graduating in 2012, he joined the company as a field manager working primarily in the D.C. and Prince George’s County markets.

Jared Rothman was hired as business developer. He studied at Greensboro College and worked in banking and sales support management prior to joining the Ruppert team.

Maryland landscape construction branch

Ruppert hired Adam Bennet as production manager. He holds an associate degree in turf grass management and landscape construction from the Ohio State University. Bennet has 14 years of experience in the landscape and construction industries, serving as foreman and superintendent.

Shane Lear was hired as estimator. He graduated from Frostburg State University in 2004 with a bachelor’s in business administration. He has 15 years of experience in the residential construction industry.

Brian Shadrick was hired as project manager. He earned his bachelor’s in landscape architecture from Washington State University in 1997 and has more than 15 years of landscape industry experience. He is a certified Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) and CSI Construction Documents Technologist (CDT).

The company promoted Camden Kent to project manager. He graduated from the University of Maryland in May with a bachelor’s in plant sciences and turf and golf course management. He previously worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He joined the company in June.

Sean Davitt was promoted to operations manager. He graduated from West Virginia University in 2010 with a bachelor’s in agricultural business and has completed OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training. Davitt is a platinum-level graduate of ABC Metro’s Leadership Development Program and has completed the Grinnell Leadership Jumpstart Program. He’s been with the company for more than six years, previously working as estimator, project manager and production manager.
