What I’m Reading Wednesday: Brand consistency and toddlers

|

Sorry for the awkward headline this week. It sounds like expect toddlers to be consistent with their branding. I don’t; although I’d be pretty impressed with any who could pull it off. My point is, here are two separate links (one about brand consistency and one about toddlers) I think are worth reading this week.

What People Think About When They Find Your Facebook Page
Business 2 Community
This article caught my eye because of the example about the landscape company’s yard signs. (Aside: Reminder to do a drive-by of any properties that may have your company’s signs up during an unsightly time of year.) But the real message here is about social media and branding. The author explains the repercussions of having a web presence that’s incongruous with the image you’d like to convey. We’d like to think our social media presence is in line with our brand (see us on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn), but please feel free to let us know if we’re missing the boat on something.

“12 Things I Want To Teach My Toddler About Work”
Dharmesh Shah via LinkedIn
Like the author of this post, I have young children and I often think about how my and my husband’s work attitudes and ethics will filter down to them. Shah codified many of my beliefs nicely here. I think I’d add to No. 7: “Early on, volunteer for the boring stuff. You’ll be surprised at what you learn and who will notice along the way.” Did he leave anything else off? Is there anything you’d add?
