FEATURED WEED
Common lespedeza
Lespedeza striata
WEED DESCRIPTION
Commonly found in soils with low fertility, lespedeza grows close to the ground in thin turf and dry, compacted areas. Leaves are trifoliate, with lance-shaped stipules and hairs along the leaf margins. Stems are wiry, prostrate and branch freely. Small, single pink-to-purple flowers grow from the leaf axils.
CONTROL TIPS
Apply a postemergence granular product, such as LockUp® specialty herbicide, when lespedeza is actively growing in warm-or-cool-season turf. Confront® and Lontrel® specialty herbicides can also be used to control lespedeza on commercial turf sites. If turf is thin or compacted, aerate the affected area, raise your mowing height and keep appropriate fertility levels for your turf.
