FEATURED WEED

Ground Ivy
Glechoma microcarpa

WEED DESCRIPTION
This prostrate creeping perennial favors moist, shady sites and tolerates low mowing heights. Its rounded, scalloped leaves and small, funnel-shaped purple flowers grow in clusters. Square stems grow several feet long and root at the nodes. When broken, plant parts feature a strong mint odor.

CONTROL TIPS
Fall is an excellent time to treat ground ivy. Apply a postemergence product, such as Turflon® Ester Ultra specialty herbicide, once the weed is actively growing. Ester-formulated products containing triclopyr, the active ingredient in Turflon Ester Ultra, have proven to be highly effective, even more so than 2,4-D-based products during the difficult summer period. Alleviate shade and improve fertility to help maintain control.
