FEATURED WEED

Common Purslane
Portulaca oleracea

WEED DESCRIPTION
This prostrate summer annual grows vigorously in warm months and is commonly found in lawns and landscape beds across the country. It thrives in well-fertilized soils and can be persistent in areas that are typically damp. Succulent leaves alternate along fleshy red stems. Solitary yellow flowers bloom May through September on hot, sunny days.

CONTROL TIPS
To control emerged purslane in turf, apply LockUp® specialty herbicide in late summer or early fall. It works by translocating throughout the entire plant, attacking the leaves, shoots and roots. Once purslane has been controlled, use good management practices to prevent reinfestation. Clean cultivation and seeding equipment that may have been used in infested areas. Remove any purslane escapes before they set seed.
