Robert English, president of MeltSnow.com, a wholesale snow, ice and dust product distributor and division of Chemical Solutions, published a preseason state of the salt address.

The opinion piece regards the salt and deicer shortages seen by the snow removal industry last winter. English speculates contractors will be short of supplies again this year, though he specifies it’s “predominantly a regional problem.”

“The deicer industry overall is not on solid ground at all and significant problems continue with the supply chain logistics across all product groups and road salt in particular,” English writes. “As we enter August, people will be shocked to find that they may not be able to get anything.”
