ALEXANDRIA, VA.—The proposal to ban E15 fuel in Maine sets the stage to protect consumers from misfueling, writes Kris Kiser, CEO and president of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), in an opinion column that recently appeared in the Bangor (Maine) Daily News. Gasoline with higher ethanol content can damage small engines that power landscape and forestry equipment, boats and older cars, he notes.

Kiser says consumers should always have choices, and we need to look at alternative fuel sources. “But to introduce a fuel that is potentially dangerous and harmful to so many engine products is reckless,” he writes.
