This was a supersized job for Superscapes, based in Carrollton, Texas. The company was in charge of the 91-acre project at The Star from construction through property maintenance. The Star is the home of the Ford Center, the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Cowboys’ World Headquarters. Superscapes is the official landscape company of the Cowboys.

While the Cowboys’ facilities might be a focal point, The Star also includes a retail center with shops and restaurants, a health and wellness center and high-end luxury condos.

“It always has to be a top-notch property,” says Kris Abbott, vice president of Superscapes.

Year-round maintenance includes weeding, mowing, irrigation, trimming and seasonal planting color changes. The team used Bobcat and Vermeer equipment, John Deere mowers, Exmark walk-behind mowers and Stihl handheld equipment. Abbott also says the property has custom-blended soil amendments and fertilization based on soil samples.

“This is a custom landscape project, and everything is tailored to that site specifically,” he says.

One challenge to the project is the type of wear and tear that the landscape can face due to heavy usage and foot traffic. It often requires a lot of work after events. And the expectations are high for the look of the property.

“This is one of the premiere properties in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” he says. “Our guys have done really well on it.”

The Star is home to the headquarters of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. It’s an understatement to say that expectations for the upkeep of this property are high.
