Control Solutions (CSI) is expanding its 14-acre campus in Pasadena, Calif., with a $5.5 million investment into a 120,000-square-feet facility. The space will be used primarily for finished goods storage, said Chuck Sutton, CSI’s director of operations. CSI manufacturers Quali-Pro turf and ornamental pesticide products.

CSI broke ground on the facility in July and expects to complete construction in February. About 20,000 square feet of the project is earmarked for distribution offices and a staging area for shipments. The new building and driveways will comprise 4.5 acres, leaving CSI with about 3 acres for future growth.

Curtis Clark, CSI’s vice president of sales and marketing, said the expansion will help CSI accommodate steady sales growth across all segments served, including pest management, lawn and garden and animal health solutions.

Clark said CSI recently launched more than six solutions for the professional pest management market alone and that each of these innovations require additional warehousing and distribution space.

The finished-goods storage center also will enable CSI to centralize warehousing and distribution of most of the Quali-Pro turf care product line acquired in late 2011. CSI currently partners with 11 off-site contract warehouses, but will be able to shift two-thirds of this to Pasadena in the spring.

“About 75 percent of our products are delivered to customers located within 1,000 miles of our Pasadena campus,” Sutton said. “Centralizing makes sense for all involved.”

Innovation investments

The need for expanded warehousing and distribution was triggered in part by some of CSI’s recently launched products:

  • CYZMIC CS: A microencapsulated lambda cyhalothrin-based solution for outdoor perimeter pest control and turf and ornamental applications, also is approved for animal housing uses and indoor food-handling areas.
  • D-FENSE Dust: A deltamethrin-based product that controls ants, bees, cockroaches, fleas, flies, silverfish, spiders and other insects, in and around structures.
  • D-FENSE SC: Containing deltamethrin, this solution controls ants, bed bugs, cockroaches, fleas, flies, silverfish, spiders and other insects, in and around structures and in turf and ornamental applications.
  • Martin’s FLEA & TICK MANAGE DIP: A permethrin-based product controls fleas, flies, lice, mites and ticks.
  • Martin’s FLEE: Containing fipronil, this solution offers a waterproof treatment for flea and tick control.
  • OPTIMATE CS: This chlorpyrifos-based product controls darkling beetles, ants, flies, crickets, moths, spiders, silverfish, sowbugs, weevils and other insects.
  • PIVOT 10: An insect growth regulator leveraging pyriproxyfen labeled for outdoor and indoor applications, including food-handling areas, and provides control of fleas, stored product pests, cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, ticks and other insects.
  • TAURUS SC: A fipronil-based product for pre- and post-construction termite treatments as well as barrier applications targeting ants and occasional invaders around structures.
